Fate of the Dana Thomas House

The Frank Lloyd Wright designed Dana Thomas House in Springfield, Illinois is scheduled for closure on December 1, 2008 due to state budget cuts.

The Dana Thomas House in Springfield, Illinois is a death row inmate, waiting as the moments tick by until it’s demise. I’ve been waiting and hoping for a last minute reprieve from the Governor to save this Springfield architectural landmark designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, but with only days left it looks like the Dana Thomas House is doomed for closure. There was another article in today’s newspaper about the closing of the state historic sights due to budget cuts, and it just doesn’t sound promising at all. I really wish there was some way to save this treasure from closure. I’m going to keep my fingers crossed, but December 1 is the end of the line, and the Dana Thomas House appears to be a dead man walking.

Whoever signed the papers to shut this down was an idiot, and must not have ever toured this magnificent creation. I was sorry to hear about the closing; glad I got to see it in November.

Unfortunately, the House was closed on my boyfriend’s birthday. He is a huge FLW fan and it was considered an insult to him as well.

Hopefully one day, people will realize what is truly a landmark, and will put them before private jets and mansions.
